about

"'Ready To Go' seemed an obvious choice for the first track on the album. This song was written very quickly, I wrote the chords one morning and then went head first straight into the demo stage. I already had the lyrics to the chorus but the first and second verses were ad-libs based on what had happened to me that day, the opening lines are a quote from my neighbour who interrupted me with a knock on my door and said, "are we having a power cut, are your lights still on?". The second verse was written after stopping for lunch and witnessing a particularly mean denouement on American Idol. The song was always going to be about frustration with false starts trying to get creative projects off the ground, so the interruptions to my day seemed to make much better metaphors than anything I could have contrived." - Adam Kidd

lyrics

Ready To Go

Are we having a power cut?
Are your lights still on? (Are your lights still on?)
Let’s head to the power station
Find out what’s really going on (I'd like to know)

Keep watching the horizon but it don’t come
Keep holding back the idle tears of want
They say you’re not ready to go

Tearing your heart right out
They just say we’ll let you know (We'll let you know)
And was it an accident?
The way they served you up whole (They served you whole)

Keep watching the horizon but it don’t come
Keep holding back the idle tears of want
They say you’re not ready to go
