about

"'Into The Night' is one of the oldest songs on the album and it probably initiated my writing partnership with Aaron Neville. We didn't write it together but I knew I was writing the sort of thing Aaron would like and when it was finished he loved it so much he wanted to start writing songs like this one with me! We played it in Aaron's short-lived solo project Mind Train, which gave me the opportunity to perform the song on every instrument apart from drums - which helped develop the musical arrangement. The lyrics are from the perspective of someone who has been dumped, it's an internal debate as they try to motivate themselves to get off their arse and live their life again - which sort of inevitably leads to the drowning of sorrows. It's about a 'friend' of mine... yeah right!" - Adam Kidd

lyrics

Into The Night
There is a world outside your door and it's waiting
So why don't you just step outside
There is a heart inside your chest and it's beating
So what have you been waiting for
Why don't you open up that door

I would if I could
But this big old heart of mine has been sucked out dry
I thought I liked the taste but now I have lost my appetite
Please can we escape into the night?

So I'll go from bar to bar where I'll be drinking
So I don't have to think at all
and a solitary soul will always end up sinking

You'll drown with that frown
And this big old heart of mine has been sucked out dry
I thought I liked the taste but now I have lost my appetite
Please can we escape into the night?

You're not fighting for survival
The city's not that cruel
Look in the eyes of your rival and see that
You're not so different after all

I would if I could
I would if I could
But this big old heart of mine has been sucked out dry
I thought I liked the taste but now I have lost my appetite
Please can we escape into the night?
