about

"'Grace' was planned as the final song on the album and it's certainly the gentlest piece by far. Lots of my favourite albums end on a low, contemplative note, so I was pretty insistent we tried this out and I think it came out beautifully in the studio. Lots of people ask me if this is about someone specific in my life, well I'm lucky to be able to say that it is not. I watched this very moving documentary by Louis Theroux about dementia and then wrote and recorded the demo immediately after, whilst torrential rain rattled against my skylight. The thought that someone you love, like a parent or partner, might start to forget who you are, is one that truly frightens me." - Adam Kidd

lyrics

Grace

Grace, where you going now?
If you walk out that door I'll just follow you out
Because we've got a lot to talk about
We just might as well get to it now
But Grace says, “What's going on?”
“Who are these people here? They don't belong”
Yes we've known for a while that some thing's wrong
When you don't recognise your child
But you know the words to the songs you used to know

Soft and slow, that's how we go
We live each moment how that moment must go
We can't work it out if there's nothing to know
We can't help you out if there's nowhere to go
When I lose my mind I hope it don't go... so... slow

Grace, she don't know me now
When she tries to talk the words don't come out
Every once in a while she'll recognise me
Feels like in those moments she's alive
