about

"Fragile Creatures is the oldest song on the new album. I wrote it before the band were formed, so we eventually named ourselves after it. I was writing about tough times, my parents were separating and my sister was too young to really understand much more than that it hurt. I was also reading about human evolution in the New Scientist, how as our big brains evolved the close knit family unit must have co-evolved... our heads are too large, so giving birth renders mother and child extremely vulnerable. We need each other for support, a human child does much of its development outside of the womb, guided every step of the way. Now, in the modern West especially, we don't need the family unit intact to guarantee our survival - but, if we lose that nurturing period, does the lack of it damage our emotional development?" - Adam Kidd

lyrics

Fragile Creatures

Open your eyes
And you will see it all for the first time
We all come out into a blinding light
It's no surprise we cry

It really matters what I say to her this time
But no strong words will come to mind
Don't wanna rock your boat no Momma
So we don't and we say

Bye-bye
But we don't know why
Given up trying to work out what is on your mind
Oh no-no-no we just can't decide

We don't emerge full formed
Our heads are too large
From the very start
We're fragile creatures

Everybody's trying to put ideas in your head
Well I'm just say here playing devil's advocate

Bye-bye
But we don't know why
Given up trying to work out what is on your mind
Oh no-no-no we just can't decide
Oh no, we just can't decide

We don't emerge full formed
Our heads are too large
From the very start
We're fragile creatures
