about

"'Body In The Boot' is one of only a handful of songs I've ever written on the keyboard. I wanted to do something noir-ish and had become fascinated by the concept of mythomania - the abnormal tendency to exaggerate and tell lies. Sometimes people are so given to falsehood they distort their own perception of reality until they can no longer tell the difference between the truth and their own fantasy. In my mind 'Body In The Boot' is about a fantasist who, in order to cope with the trauma of their partner leaving them, has decided they were kidnapped and possibly killed rather than accepting they have gone willingly. Their world starts to untangle when they spot their former lover alive and well. I wrote and recorded the first half really quickly, then I dozed off and the seoncd half, where things pick up a notch, all came to me in a dream! I woke up at something like 4am and had to record this rocky outro section really quietly before I forgot it!" - Adam Kidd

lyrics

Body In The Boot

I've been waiting for you here
Ever since you disappeared
Sitting in my room so dark
Watching dust settle upon every thing that I've got

Are you a body in some boot?
Is this a magic trick, is it just a ruse?
I sought but never found the truth
Within those lies you span a web for me and you
But it couldn't last

Well I must confess baby I was real surprised
When I saw you a live
Don't lie, you thought I was dead as well

There's no world for you and I
and now I know the reason why
I pricked a rose, got fingers full of thorns
And though it hurts like hell I always wanted more
Then it's over in a flash
Nothing through the looking glass

When I saw you at the airport I was real surprised
To see you alive
Don't lie, you thought I was dead as well
Don't lie, you wanted me dead as well
If you'd had the chance

Living in a fantasy, trapped in a dream
Don't apologise for it I've got nothing else
So I keep you alive
This lie, without it I'm dead inside
This lie, without it I'm dead inside
And now you know the truth
